Bluescreen technology is a term that describes the process of filming material in front of a blue background and afterwards replacing the background with a different one. Bluescreen was developed in 1930’s in Hollywood, in order to create special effects.
Technically speaking, Bluescreen filming enables the creators of film material to extract certain parts of footage material and to combine it with others.
The postproduction separates the footage from the blue background. This step is called keying, and is possible because the color blue is one of the colors farthest away from the color of skin. The keyed film element can now be combined with all types of backgrounds.
The most wide known use of this technique is the application in TV weather forecasts, but it is also applied for web based film features, for example, the website video presenter.
